I love Stephen King’s character work. There’s not much plot to this book and not even much character development, but just getting to know them and hanging out with them is enjoyable. I wish the Chico story wasn’t in there. It was unnecessary spice. Other than that it’s a very charming story. I think the King’s creative prose puts it a little above the movie.

At least there wasn’t any horror, just gross scenes.

Deeply nostalgic in a somewhat happy way, but more so in a reflective, mournful way. A coming of age story where the threshold between adolescence and manhood is explored. There is something to be said and discourse to be had about the idea that they were walking towards a dead body. In a figurative way, they were all walking towards death. I would have to read it again to really pick up on some of the deeper themes, but I defs vibe with this book.

I love this story so, so much.
A good-written, and - for me - nostalgic read from when I saw the movie a few years back. And I have to say, the movie did a phenomenal job. This might be the first film-adaptation ever that really translated the book to an equally good movie. This coming-of-age story is unlike others I've read, but in its simplicity a touching story came through.
Highly recommend.

The movie has been a favorite of mine for years. The story is pretty much the same but I found the book to be incredibly reflective which added even more depth to the story. A sad and charming story.
