I finally (kinda) finished this series! (I still have to read Sinner which I am super excited about as it's supposed to follow one of my favorite characters in the series- Isabel, I'm looking at you.) I think I'll recommend this series forever! It will rip your heart to shreds, but put it back together so beautifully. I loved the way that difficult subjects were dealt with such as depression/suicidal thoughts and how the transformation into a wolf could kind of be seen as a form of suicide. Also, the horrifying level of neglect that Grace faced, and how ultimately she came out of it so fiercely strong and independent. I had no choice but to adore her character. Honestly, all of the characters were so loveable (except Shelby, never Shelby 🖕🏻). My biggest complaint was just that I didn't get that happy, everything-is-coming-to-a-close feeling about the ending. It felt VERY rushed, and what can I say? I don't think I'm an "open ended" kinda girly in the slightest when it comes to my series endings. I just felt like I needed a bit more Sam & Grace to truly feel that my journey in Mercy Falls was over, or maybe I just have a hard time letting them go. Either way, still a great series♡

2024: I still love this series, and I'm so glad I reread it, but this one doesn't quite live up to how I remember it as a teenager.

2017: Stiefvater has done it again. Absolutely amazing.

This book has so much to say about love and bravery and grief and growing up. It all feels like such a culmination of the previous two books that it really works as a conclusion. The story needs all of them: Grace with her put-togetherness, Sam with his determination, Cole with his wow factor, and Isabel with her stubbornness. There’s a lot of love between all of them, and lots of other types of love too, but the three main love stories of the book are particularly heart-aching. Sam and Grace of course have the kind of love that feels familiar while at the same time feeling out of reach. Cole and Isabel and have the kind of love that isn’t even love yet but feels so deliciously inevitable. And the love story that is the foundation this series was built upon: Sam and Beck. It always comes back to Beck. It’s not a love story that I would model anything in my own life after. But most love stories aren’t.
