it was ok. the characters were all very caricature/superficial and motives felt a bit weak. it was just kind of boring with nothing much happening in the present til the end. i guessed almost all the major plot points but i liked the non-linear timeline and one reveal near the end, so 3.5.

I had to go back and check, but this is now my highest-rated of Miranda's books. I'm glad I held out, because while many of her books were decent, this one crossed the threshold into really good. I really liked the survivors tropes and how Miranda unraveled the mystery in the book. The premise was just believable enough that it felt like some parts of the book could have really happened, which definitely kept me on edge. I'm really happy to have read this - it's absolutely my favourite of Miranda's works that I've read.

I love Megan Miranda! She always finds a way to tell a suspenseful story that feels plausible. This book was especially interesting because it’s unlike any other suspense story. It’s hard to tell what you’d do as a teenager in the face of extreme tragedy and the lies they all hold on to cost each of them. It was a mystery until the very end!
