Fay runs her cake shop from her garden with the help of Lija. She also looks after her Mum who has made herself bedbound.

Danny turns up on his narrowboat and turns Fay's world upside down. Tragedy strikes and then Fay must decide what's more important in life.

A lovely story, but also quite sad a times. So many times I wanted to shout at Fay when she couldn't see what was in front of her.

Very much outside of my comfort zone, but I really wanted to try and read something very light and summery as my brain was overloaded with other bits and pieces. I loved the idea of a cake shop in the garden and decided that this would be a nice one to read in the sunshine.

The main issue that I had with this book was that the main protagonists were really weak. Fay is a 44 year old pushover who is going on 70 and seems to think that her life is over - and her new love interest Danny is much younger than her and just doesn't seem believable in the slightest.

The sub-characters were more interesting and seemed much more well rounded, which was nice. I enjoyed reading about Stan, and even Anthony had more to him than Fay which I'm sure wasn't intentional.

In all it was a slow, easy summer read without much to it which was what I expected.

Thoroughly enjoyed this lighthearted romance. Easy read and quick to get into as always with Carole Matthews she gets you feeling in love from the first chapterĀ

I loved this book, the characters and the setting were lovely. I was very sad to finish it and I hope Carole Matthews writes a sequel to it.

Enjoyable, easy read. Just what's needed for a bit of simple escapism.
