3.5⭐️. Don’t get me wrong. I love Jasmine Guillory and her writing style. I love this series feel and seeing old characters pop up. But I do feel like it’s getting hard to keep track of all the relationships and what happened to people in previous books. This was a classic though. I loved the characters and their commitment to each other AND to being themselves. I also loved that they let each other be themselves. It was nice to read. It was a great plot and a quick read. I just feel like I might want something new with new characters in a new place.

What I have loved about Jasmine Guillory’s Wedding Date series (this is book 5!) is that the lead character is always a Black woman. It’s not often that romcom novels star women of color and Guillory uses her platform to dive into race both in the relationship world as well as life in general.

3.5 stars The story started out well for me. I enjoyed both of the main characters and the struggles they had personally and with each other. However, about half way through the book until the end, I thought there was a little too much telling and not enough showing. Hence, the deduction of 0.5 stars.

I’ve enjoyed reading every Jasmine Guillory book I have touched. This one did not disappoint and was just as lovely and romantic as all of the other books of hers that I have read.

I enjoyed this book even tough it was fairly predictable. I appreciate a good love story that just makes you happy.

Jasmine Guillory's books are always so satisfying- they're cute, the sex is hot, you root for everyone, and you always come away feeling like you've learned something about your own relationships, something you want to be kinder or more patient about.

It’s a cute book about a lawyer, Olivia Monroe, and a chance meeting with Senator Max Powell at a hotel bar which blossoms into a complicated romance.
I thought the main character Olivia was super cool and a straight boss. She left the comfort of a stable job in NYC to open her own firm with a friend in LA. She is hardworking and knows what she wants but she also doesn’t. She makes decisions all the time but she takes her time to get to them which is the complete opposite of her political beau.
Max is very spontaneous, has a bit of a temper and is a little selfish. He grew up as the stereotypical white boy from SoCal but has changed his tune during his political career.
I’m glad the author brought up important topics such as racism and privilege but not to the point of annoyance.
Overall, I thought it was a nice romantic interracial book that featured a Black woman that isn’t sexualised or sterotyped.

DNF - I tried to read this multiple times but it was just bland. I liked the set up, but the dialogue was totally lacking and there was just… nothing? In terms of characterization, beyond what they look like and their jobs. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE, and why do they have 0 internal monologue? Not a terrible book, but it read so flat to me.
