Made way more sense once I realized it was a novella. Charming with smoking hot smut.

Mary Calmes I think is a bit of a hit or miss for me. I absolutely love some of her books, then there are some that leave me feeling like I didn't get it. This was one such book. I felt like the characters were having a conversation that I wasn't privy to. I went into it already knowing that Ryan was a demon. But I think it would have been more fun to read this not knowing that fact. It would have made the reveal a bit more exciting. The fact that Julian (and Cash and Pheobe for that matter) didn't freak out and just pretty much accepted everything without hesitation didn't quite sit right with me. I felt there should have been a bit more convincing. But it was fun to see how drawn these two were to each other and Ryan's shyness and uncertainty was really sweet.

I don't know what I just read.

Okay. First 3/4 of book - typical male/male kind of check the box erotic story. And if it had continued down this same route, this would have ended up at a three rating mostly because the main character is adamant that they do not do one night stands until one acquaintance comes along and then even after saying it over and over again, he still breaks his own rule. More bad decisions include BAREBACK. Seriously?! I have nothing against the concept - but definitely - have issue that it goes completely against the mc stated beliefs.

So as I said before, the story went into a direction where it suddenly delved into the paranormal. No hints, no clues, then boom. And it's thrown at us in multiple cliches - the author just hoping that something sticks. No way. Move along.

Huh... Well, that was a fun and fast read! I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I definitely liked this story. It was a great mix of drama, action, romance, and heat. A series I'll add to my never-ending TBR!

Parece q eu li metade de um livro e o resto sumiu. Final apressadíssimo e faltou MUITO plot. Potencial desperdiçado.

Not all that long ago, I read this and did not like it, But, in reading that (now deleted) review, I realized my reaction was mostly me, not much the story. Oops.

So this is a re-read, but this time I enjoyed it. I skipped the two italicized memories/backstory, because blocks of italics are harder for me to read. But I read the 'earlier that day' one because that seemed more story-pertinent, plus it was way shorter.

As a start to a series, this is fine. As a Mary Calmes story, it is average, not her best but not her worst. Now I'll read Tooth & Nail, which I suspect I'll like better, dot, dot, dot. :)
