A fantastic anthology of re-imaged fairy tales with a focus on female heroines! A lot of variety in stories, but I enjoyed them all!

I read an update format of this anthology, the comics looked great, but the text based stories had a bit too much text on a page.

when it was good it was very very good and when it was bad it was mediocre

this was a great collection! it could have done with another round of proof-editing -- one of the text stories in particular really would've benefited from another pair of eyes -- but i enjoyed myself immensely overall. even the worst of the stories committed no greater sin then being too straightforward retellings, nothing bad, just okay. i'm too lazy to review story by story so for a sample i'm gonna copy-paste what i messaged my friend after finishing one of them

This is a lovely collection from some of my favorite web-comic writers and artists, including the team behind "Namesake." The art is beautiful and the stories are retellings and twists on more obscure fairy tales (including Snow White and Rose Red, a childhood favorite of mine). All of the stories are told from a female-centric viewpoint and many of them have strong LGBTQ themes at a G rating, something that's often difficult to find. There's also a huge spread of cultures represented both in the origin of the fairy tales and the cast of characters. Every child is bound to find a princess that matches her outside and inside.

As with any collection, some stories are better than others, some art is better than others, but most of the time the only issue I had with a story is it seemed far too short and I could tell there was a much longer piece waiting just outside the page count. Aside from these unfinished-feeling tales, I'd highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good fairy tale twist and especially kiddos who need a diverse hero in their lives.

This is a collection of short stories. Most are done in a graphic novel format but there are a few written short stories as well. Some were better than others, which always holds try for collections but I felt like all of them were worth reading. There were some I really enjoyed and especially the various forms of representation that were written/drawn had me excited for each new story.

Read for the Witcher-a-thon June 2020 reading challenge.
Prompt: Yennefer of Vengerberg (read a book with a strong female character)

A few of the comics and stories were a little weak but over all this was great! A very diverse collection of fairytales, sticking quite close to most of the original plots but changing up gender, sexual orientation, and race in a way that more well known collections, authors and companies should take note of.

Excellent anthology of stories by mostly (entirely?) webcomic authors and artists. The creators reference an array of cultures, folktales and myths. Delightfully high in diversity, including some same-sex romances, and with a variety of stories from mostly humorous to rather dark. The art is varied and excellent; the stories are creative with well-rounded characters and unexpected plot twists. Appropriate for most teens and will delight graphic novel fans in that age range as well as adults.
