The main character is Jesse Custer (the Preacher) who has a special power - the Word. We follow his journey as he tracks down God, who left Heaven when he finished Creation. He’s been AWOL for a while...
In this first book, we learn more about Jesse’s background (his family are scary!!!) as well as a host of supporting characters - my favourite is Cassidy, a Irish vampire whose heart is in the right place.
Can’t wait to continue on with the story!
I would say that this might not be for everyone - there’s a lot of violence, swearing and an... irreverent look at religion, specifically Christianity. So if that could offend you, I’d perhaps proceed with caution.
