What a great start to a comic run! All the characters are fully fleshed out - you get a sense of a very real world, but with fantastical elements.  The storytelling is excellent, and the artwork is powerful. It really draws you in.  It’s exactly what you’d expect from Ennis and Dillon!

The main character is Jesse Custer (the Preacher) who has a special power - the Word. We follow his journey as he tracks down God, who left Heaven when he finished Creation. He’s been AWOL for a while...

In this first book, we learn more about Jesse’s background (his family are scary!!!) as well as a host of supporting characters - my favourite is Cassidy, a Irish vampire whose heart is in the right place.

Can’t wait to continue on with the story!

I would say that this might not be for everyone - there’s a lot of violence, swearing and an... irreverent look at religion, specifically Christianity. So if that could offend you, I’d perhaps proceed with caution.
