This one started out awesome. I loved Brighid as a character and her mission was fabulous. She is a deep and thoughtful 'person' and she wants to help her friends succeed. My favorite character in the book was Liam, he is so wonderful and cute!! I wish he had had more parts in the book. I love Cuchulainn and Brighid opinion of children too, I am way more extreme then them, but it was neat to see things from their prespective on kids.

The magic part of the story was a little odd, because there was nothing like it in the other 4 books. Which makes me wonder why the change. I can understand it, because before we were always looking at things from Epona's Choosen perspective, this time we were seeing things from a Shaman's side. Shaman's maybe see more magic than Epona's Choosen. It was also a little weird how Epona changed one person's powers mid-way through the story. I suppose it's possible, but it felt out of place. And then the character still didn't really change his opinion of his powers, so to me it made no difference.

The book felt like it was building and building and building for this momentual ending and then it fell short (at least for me it did). The ending to me should have been a whole other book with lots of drama. It was all backed into one book which made it seem quickly written and not fully developed. It started out as such a good story, I was a little disappointed with the ending. The sad part is the book didn't even really end. The epilogue clearly makes it sound like there is another book coming.

On the Series as a Whole
It was a well written Adult story. I don't think I would ever read books 1 and 2 again (just to many adult scenes for me to handle). Books 3 and 4 were my favorites. I am very thankful for this opportunity to read such a good series. P.C. Cast is definitely my favorite author.

Readable but...

2.5 points
Easy read, author is reasonably decent at that craft at least. Some pacing issues, pretty slow beginning and end was wrapped up with almost indecent haste. Suffers of excess wordiness in places and could have easily been about third shorter. Characters sprout verse-form prayers in what seems every ten pages or so.
But what ultimately really annoyed me was that author has created somewhat matriarchal society and yet could not write it without many references to sexual violence and one very detailed attempted rape scene. Serious trigger warning here.

I think that about 400 pages were filler, and the last 100 were the actual plot came in were just shit .

On a quest to escort the orphaned New Formorians (children born with wings) back to the land of their ancestors, Brighid, a centaur huntress, discovers a complication she hadn’t anticipated: her quest companion, the warrior Cuchulainn, needs her help as well. Still grieving from the death of his love, it’s begun to threaten his soul.

I enjoyed this series’ first book, Elphame’s Choice, reasonably well, so I thought I’d give this one a try. Unfortunately, it’s too predictable and not especially satisfying. I think I’m through with P.C. Cast.

Some parts of the book were slow. However, I enjoyed the book. I regret reading it before I read Elphame's Choice though because it gave a lot of that book away. Ughh.

This book in the Parthanon series felt very different than the rest of the series for some reason. It was sort of slow and it jammed all the action in the last tiny bit. Ms. Cast stays true to totally and brutally exposing her characters to emotions, which is a great thing, it makes them feel way more real.

The story line is good but as I said, starts out slow and then it packs the action to the end of the story, I couldn't get a feeling about where I was in the story and the climax wasn't obvious until I actually thought about it after closing the book. I did fall in love with all the characters, Ms. Cast writes them so real that is hard to separate yourself from them and they stick with you long after you are done with the story. The charachters just seem like they can walk right out of the page and after reading the rest of the Parthanon series the world of Partanon just seemed all that more real to me as well. I hope there is another book in this series and Ms. Cast left the end totally open for one, so I guess...we shall see.

Adoro a imaginação da autora que criou este mundo do Partholon. A escrita infelizmente não é das melhores, mas a história é tão envolvente que dá para passar ao lado.
É provavelmente o meu livro preferido da série.

I really enjoyed this novel as in Elphame's Choice, I had been really intrigued by Brighid and her story of how she came to be in MacCallan Castle.
The story telling is good and every time there was a scene with the New Formorian children, they brought a smile to my face. Especially Liam, who couldn't love him!
