I love Nic Stone and how so consistently awesome she is. I liked this less than her other books but I might just be in a mood.

First off, Shenice's 12U softball team puts my high school team to absolute shame. Dang. I don't think their skill is necessarily unrealistic for an elite team, but it's so wildly different from my personal experience. Their pitcher knows how to throw more than two pitches!

The mystery elements of this book surprised me, and I loved them. I also loved how Shenice's friends rallied around her when she needed support. More examples of friends lifting each other up in kid lit are a thing we need.

Good

Good middle grade read. Mix of sports stiry, mystery and realistic fiction with effects of racism thrown in. A quick read . I recommend it.

This book passed quickly on an overnight flight where I fell asleep a couple times and had to rewind. Everything about the book felt solid and enjoyable; nothing stands out either way.

Realistic sports fiction with a mystery as the main character tries to figure out whether or not her grandfather was wrongly accused of stealing a baseball glove.
