1.5 rounded up. honestly it felt like not much really happened in this. and it felt really juvenile a lot of the time, despite the fact that the characters are 17/18 and definitely doing some more mature things (stuff like: “omg you can’t have another friend, i’m your best friend” and “i hate that you have a boyfriend because now you’ve completely abandoned me since you don’t hang out with me 24/7”) also MAJOR trigger warnings for self harm, suicide, and suicidal ideation, i was not expecting that.

I was so bored. I didn't hate this book but I was bored by this book. I kept losing my place and having to reread bc my mind wandered. Honestly, so much of this was annoyingly unbelievable, now I hear you, it magic, its isn't supposed to be believable but it was the "real parts" that were unbelievable. For instance - Dan's parents, they were grossly unreal, it was like a teenage wrote down what the wished their parents were like and made characters out of them, "Oh you snuck out and almost died in a car accident and we didn't even know you weren't in the house, NO YOU'RE NOT GROUNDED? WHAT? WHY WOULD YOU THINK WE WOULD GROUND YOU? All we ask is that you please tell us next time you sneak out, we trust you FULLY even though you just lied to us but we trust you no matter what." No normal parent is going to react that way. And the frenemies that were Liss, Dan and Alexa... gross. and I personally felt like the whole cutting thing didn't really fit into this tale. I mean I get it but maybe if Dan's parents were a little more attentive then this problem could have been discussed earlier? Idk, it didn't do it for me. I have read worse but I did not like this one.
