I liked it but for the narrator /Psellus? misogynist view that Empress Zoe's sexuality led to the downfall of her Empire. It didn't. Caught a listen of this on BBC in the last two hours it was up today.

From BBC Radio 3 - Drama on 3:
Poison, intrigue, rebellion, torture, eunuch armies, black magic, political and sexual intrigue: this fast-moving historical epic tells the story of the Empress Zoe. Soft-hearted and politically naive, she nevertheless has the strongest claim to the throne of Constantinople, and lives for several eventful decades at the centre of vicious power struggles for control of the Byzantine Empire. It is a true story, based on contemporary histories of the 11th Century.
