DNF at 28%. I really dislike the idea that we create our reality. I realize the author is just condensing and explaining what A Course In Miracles is all about, so I can’t fault him for that. But if this is what ACIM says, it’s not OK.

Here is what made me quit reading:

“People can try to remove your happiness. They can threaten you; criticize you; insult you; tell lies about you; try to frighten, intimidate, or punish you; and do bad things to your body. But they cannot remove your peace unless you give them that power…If anyone seems to have stolen your peace, it is because you have allowed them into your sacred sanctuary and let them plunder your treasure.”

That’s just toxic positivity and victim blaming.

I tried to read a Course in Miracles several years ago and really had a tough time. Since I wasn't raised Christian the Father, son and Holy Ghost thing sort of gave me some problems and I really struggled with it. I was hoping that this book would give me a better grasp on it and I was pleasantly surprised. The beginning didn't grab me at first but it peaked my interest and kept me reading, by about halfway through I was highlighting passages and finding "aha" moments. The epilogue is supreme and titled: "Everything you always wanted to know about A Course in Miracles but didn't want to have to read the whole course to find out" and it truly is a 14 point breakdown of the whole course. Wonderful food for thought that I will probably be returning to again and again.

I liked that Cohen presents the main idea(s) from A Course in Miracles through stories, which makes the point(s) much easier to relate to and remember. I loved the line: "A Course in Miracles is a love letter from God." ;-) I also liked this idea: "Being a miracle worker... simply asks you to deliver your unique gifts as you walk through life." I'm all about one's innate gifts.

This book is phenomenal. It explains the Course so clearly, without losing the complexity. It is so easy to read, and fun to read: there is minimal philosophical language, and many fun, down-to-earth examples to illustrate the concepts of the Course. This has reignited my interest in the Course and will be a great resource as I continue working through it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who at all interested in A Course in Miracles, whether you are just starting out or are farther along.

I had read ACIM years ago and it didn't make sense to me, so I thought I'd give this book a try. He did make it a bit more practical, but for me, it just wasn't has helpful as most of the other spiritual books I've been reading. Currently Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach is much more helpful in finding the miracles that I think ACIM is leading to, so I gave up on this book.

The book felt a bit disjointed and at times just an elaboration on quotes from ACIM. But about 1/2 way through I found myself really enjoying more passages and highlighting them.
