So... I give up.

I was really trying to soldier on and do it. but after 18 hours and 45 minutes (out of 32 hours and 38 minutes) I gave up. This measures to about 500 pages or so out of 850. So I crossed the half line and ergo will write why I couldn't go on.

A) I may be too young for this. I see myself as a mature person who can stomach so much austere events, but there are some things I know that I don't wanna encounter at this point of my life like rape, and man rape (Is that even a word?), wife beating, and non consensual sex no matter how sugar coated it was.

B) I hate Claire. I feel so guilty when I hate a female character, and so often the character in question is represented as "Fierce and courageous woman, powerful beyond a doubt and makes everyone around her so insecure". I find myself thinking: Are you hating her because you hate strong women or because she is to be hated? and I guilt my self to liking her again.
I do, however, think Claire is to be hated. She puts everyone in danger so many times, lets Jaime walk all over her, and for the most part she gets mad about random things but when someone does something actually awful she is so nonchalant about it.

C) I think Jaime is being portrayed as a "Perfect" character. He's SO pretty, can speak Latin, able to withstand 200 lashes or so, fights off many people at once, and always right. He beats his wife after the very very stupid thing she's done, and takes all her anger away by telling her anecdotes about times when he was hit as a child. Plus there is the whole "He'll be gentle but not denied" thing. What even is that?

D) Sadism is okay in the 18th century, alert the media. After Jaime tells Claire how he was so strong-headed and took enormous amounts of punishment as a boy he asks her what sadist means and is very happy to be called a "Fucking sadist" after he is told. Why? Why is he happy to be called a sadist? What part of that is even good?

E) At some point there isn't mention of Frank or going home anymore. Because who dares leaves her red head bulk of perfection?

I watched the show up to season 2 episode 6 until now, and it's equally frustrating. Why am I doing this? No idea, to be honest. It's not like it's the only show with old theme out there. The book didn't make eager to go in after 100 pages or so. If I weren't so stressed I would have DNFed this so long ago.

This story is looooooooooooooong and slow in pace. There are moments of fast paced action and tons of slow movement. However there are plenty of characters with some great definement. I loved Claire as a main character loved Jamie as her husband and hated many others. There are great details in the change of atmosphere for Claire and I admire the depth that writer went through to create the world. I can't get past how slow the pace was though.

E não me enganei.
O livro é grande e a disponibilidade de tempo não era muita, o que me obrigava a apenas ler quando tinha alguma pausa de uma tarefa e lia apenas antes de dormir. Esta lentidão permitiu-me saborear melhor a história e apaixonar-me novamente pelas personagens. Adoro a personagem principal, a Claire, e amei o Jamie desde o início. É, sem dúvida, uma história que quero seguir.
