A warm-hearted read into how to find happiness and kindness in all parts of life despite others constantly showing you anything but that. Makes you feel so connected to the story when Eddie constantly references the reader as his friend.

it was a bit much in the end. His story of survival and success seems too incredible although it is probably true. A happy positive story.

Mr. Jaku certainly experienced horror on this earth: the worst that mankind can do. Yet I was surprised to learn that he is still a humanist, believing in the ability of the human will to choose happiness over bitterness, to choose good over evil. I disagree that mankind can do that successfully on its own. There has to be a foundation on which to build your choices. For example, I appreciate his statement that a man who loses his morals loses himself, but where do those morals you are trying to preserve come from? The source matters.
Mr. Jaku seems to have been ‘fortunate’ in life to have a lovely family to idolize. His philosophy of happiness may work for those who also have happy families, but what do the rest do? There has to be more to pursuing happiness than ‘happy families’ and, of course, there is.
I guess I found his memoir unconvincing for anyone looking for an answer to real happiness; however, his story of survival is inspiring.

In The Happiest Man on Earth, Eddie Jaku writes about all the horrendous atrocities he suffered at the hands of the Nazis. It was inspiring to read how he was able to endure all of this and how he subsequently build up his life after the war with a positive mindset.
