Becky Chambers continues to delight with the second book of the Wayfarer series. There are two main stories here, happening in past and present. Both stories are incredibly compelling and made me want to keep reading more. The self reflection and transformation of both the main characters (Sidra and Jane/Pepper) is beautiful to watch. Highest recommendations.

A departure from the first book in form and style, but just a phenomenal. Chambers is amazing at analyzing the human condition through the lens of her characters and this novel is no different. A simple plot overall allows for a detailed exploration of what it means to be sentient and how learning autonomy changes a person for the better.

A stunning sequel just as thoughtful and beautiful as the first one. It addresses standard sci-fi questions of humanity and belonging in a nuanced and delightful way. Excited to keep reading this series!

I loved this book so much. Really lovely exploration of what it means to be human and how to survive and accept a present that was chosen by others in your past.

Some content warnings are probably needed for mistreatment of children, but the subject matter was handled so thoughtfully and delicately I was very impressed. I read the previous book in this series and wasn’t terribly impressed with it (though I loved Chambers’ other work, the Monk and Robot duology). But I think she really found her footing with this one.
