A sometimes gruelling experience in disphoria and the choices we make and have made for us about our bodies

The plot switches back and forth between Pepper's past and present, when she is guided by and guides two different "artificial" people. These two timelines collide at the end. All of the characters have been through. A lot. This book handles their stories with respect and care. This is a beautiful exploration of the meanings of family and care. Their world is unjust, so they steal a little justice for themselves.

This book is everything the first one wasn’t, and the first was already great. We get a nice little 2 for 1 story deal here and we get to explore different topics than the first. 4.5/5

I loved this book, Sidra and Pepper are both such cool loveable characters and I had a great time getting to know them. Baby Jane made me so sad, and I definitely cried reading some of her bits, and Sidra's journey of discovery and her struggle to understand who she was and what her place in the world is was so emotional and relatable too. I love Tak and Blue too. Basically it was a great book about friendship, love, connection, and what it means to be a person. Highly recommend.

This book used sci-fi tropes to portray mental health issues in a way that seemed relatable. Most of the book was pretty serious, but the topics never became overwhelming.
