Words cannot describe how sad I am that this is the last book we’ll get with Daine as the main character 😭

I absolutely loved this series and so many of the characters will forever have a place in my heart

I adore a good quest, and this final book of the Immortals Series has that in spades! Honestly, the only thing that keeps me from giving this one 5 stars is the romantic relationship. It’s just way too borderline sus. Otherwise, once again another banger from Tamora Pierce!

The Realm of the Gods is the final book in the Immortals quartet, and the last one to feature Daine as a protagonist of the Tortallan books.

I will admit that this one was always my least favorite out of the quartet. It's not that I don't like it; I just don't like it as much as the others. My favorite parts are being able to really see the other Gods and the realm from which they come from as well as Daine's continued character development (such as how she's come to terms with the fact that Stormwings can't fight what they are). But, there's some things I'm not too fond of with this book.

One is the amount of time spent in the Gods Realm. Like, yeah, this is important to Daine and her character, but we spent three books building up this war between Tortall and Ozorne and them, and yet we missed most of it because Daine's frolicking around in another universe. It would have been nice to see more than parts of the final battle.

The second is Daine and Numair's relationship. It's all fine and dandy later, and I'm cool with them in the later books, but Daine's only sixteen here and Numair's a lot older, plus he's her student so there's an imbalance of power. Luckily, Pierce did promise not to be doing that anymore.

Other than that, this book, like all the others, is a solid read. It's nice to see Daine's journey wrap-up nicely because the girl's been through a lot and she needs some time now to sit down and just be happy.

Content warnings: Death; violence; slight graphic explanations of injuries, blood, and gore

As the last book in the Immortals quartet this book resolved some things, answered a few other things (most of which I had questions about from reading Tortall and Other Lands: A Collection of Tales), and generally was a good book.

Plenty of action. Descriptions of the realms of the gods. We meet Daine's father and get to see Daine's mother and not just through her memory of her. And of course there's feelings.

As of the end of book 2, I was on the fence about Rikash the Stormwing. Book 3, I was more amenable to him. This book destroyed me because of him. Because I had somewhat of an attachment to him.

I'm so glad that things worked out the way they did in this series. I mean I knew Daine would live. As would her mentor/teacher. Or at least had a good feeling they would live thanks to the above mentioned and linked book. I just didn't know how or what shape they'd be in.

Overall, as a stand alone book it's decent. But as the end of the quartet (especially from reading the prior quartet and trilogy as well beforehand) it was REALLY good. Had I read just this quartet without the 7 books before I'd have lots of questions and be all kinds of confused. And I'm kind of glad I read these in the order that I did (especially as I'm more or less reading them in the order of what belongs where in the universe according to the author). I highly recommend this quartet (even if you don't read the Song of the Lioness quartet or the Beka Cooper trilogy though I think you're kind of wrong for not reading them and reading this).

"She ran to Numair, slamming into him with enough force to drive him back against the willow's trunk. "That hurt," he gasped. Before she could apologize, he was kissing her nose, her cheeks, her forehead, her lips. She kissed him back. They came up for air, then kissed again, their hands checking each other's bodies, for serious injury as well as simply for the joy of touch."

For the Numair/Daine bits ALONE, this book is my favorite of the series. The fact that it has dragons and Gods and great battle scenes only makes it more so, tbh.
