The writing hells very over the top. And it's very hard to get past literally everything about the MMC. However, it had fun sexual tension and I'm going to read the second one.

Dark contemporary romance
Stalker romance
Dual POV
Flashback
Touch her and die
Forced proximity

This felt like I was reading a slightly altered 50 shades of grey.

There were big plot holes going on. Ones that I don’t think can be explained with 1-2 sentences the way they were. And it was small things like here dad’s debt and lack of any investigation of a his murder, her ex fiancé, the backpack, how a fall from society seemed to knot take a couple of weeks when any actual processing after a death takes way longer than that… there seemed to be an issue with object permanence.

Some of this dialogue is very unnatural and cliche. There were so many inconsistencies  that could have been easily avoided.

The flashback of the court scene was terribly laid out. It’s probably the worst representation of a court scene I’ve ever read. It was a missed opportunity. It could have been twice as long and given so much more insight than it did.

I like that the untrustworthy character is the trustworthy narrator and the character that should be more morally trustworthy seems to be not a trustworthy narrator… it’s an interesting dynamic.

I won’t be continuing with this series.

Thank you NetGalley and forever (Grand Central Publishing) for an eARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

I am dead. Deceased. Was not expecting to learn about myself today. That chase scene though. Y'all.

As far as the writing style goes, there were a few awkward phrasings, but overall, it is very well written. Hayden is the stuff of fantasy. Calista is a bit of a Mary Sue with honestly some very understandable trust issues and a tragic backstory. And the ending is a cliffhanger worthy of the season finale of a TV Show.

As far as the romance dynamics go, you've got some nonconsensual stalking and voyeurism. You have themes of obsession and "protection" via control and manipulation. Lots of tension. Hayden throws a lot of primal lines out there, and is extremely possessive. Calista, rightfully, challenges his desire to lock her in a cage throughout the entire story and I love her for it.

Obviously thier relationship isn't healthy. Obviously it's problematic. But dark romance doesn't exist as a genre because of the wholesome vibes. I will be reading the sequel to this one, and I'm really interested to see how the issues presented in this book get resolved.

okay this was a million times yes book for me. Was it the best book ever? No. But did I love it and have so much fun? Fuck yeah. Dark romance is my guilty pleasure! Hayden and Calista have my heart. Even though he’s crazy, I loved it. one of my favorite micro-tropes is a couple being both obsessed with each other. At first I honestly died laughing but overall loved the whole vibe. Honestly I’d love a Hayden, no shame (maybe a little). I WILL BE READING THE NEXT BOOK, huge cliffhanger btww *im still kicking my feet and giggling* this is for my girls who love their crazy book boyfriends, as do I.

“She is mine. My reason for feeling alive. My reason for feeling enraged. My reason for feeling anything at all.”

“If I give myself to you—” “When,” he interjects.
