I've decided that I'm just not a short story person. I love novels. I decided to give this book a try because work has been so busy lately that I don't have as much time to read. But it just didn't really do much for me.

Would like to read again once I'm smarter
"Wants" is tops, as is "Goodbye and Good Luck"

"Forgive you? She laughed. But she reached across the clutch. With her hand she turned my face to her so my eyes would look into her eyes. You are my friend, I know that, Faith, but I promise you, I won't forgive you, she said. From now on, I'll watch you like a hawk. I do not forgive you."

And I don't even like short stories. She is so good. I saw her read at the Printer's Row Book Fair and got hooked. Every story is completely alive in its own way, all these odd little animals staring up at you. The one about her friend George, the inventor, is essentially about how I view my own self and my work.

Paley is great at crafting a world you can feel. I don't really know how to put it except that she evokes character and place consistently through her stories—whether they feature her recurring characters or not. She makes interesting stories in a real-feeling world without resorting to clichés, and is certainly a master of her form.

There's some really cool stories in here and then there are some 3 pages ones that you think what the hell is the point
