I didn't really enjoy this book. I didn't care for the characters, the choices they made, the way they spoke. It just didnt do it for me. Honestly I had to push through it and I kept hoping for it to get better but it never did.
Having said that, the plot worked, the pace was ideal, and the bones of the story were solid. I didn't like the book, but it wasn't a bad book, just not for me.
Funny enough it had been ages since I read the other two and all i really remembered was mostly liking the first one and the second being entirely forgettable. Luckily this book was free. I find it ironic I own the entire series and have no intention of ever reading these books again.

Wow.
This was the perfect conclusion to the mousai series.
It was truly an emotional and heartbreaking journey.
Arabessa, the eldest child really stepped into her power. We get to watch a journey through her eyes as the eldest, essentially being a parent to her younger sisters growing up, shouldering the burdens of her responsibilities and hot it shaped her in adulthood. Arabessa was always the responsible one, so her decisions were always controlled and she put others first before she did so herself. This was one of the recurring themes in this book where she had to make tough decisions that would be for the good of others, but where she would watch her heart break. I loved seeing the way hee character developed, the struggles she faced, the responsibility she took on with her relationships and that of the kingdom. My heart broke along with her and I cried just as many tears. To step into her shoes and her perspective in this book was hard because at times it is relatable.
"Arabessa realized then how painful it was to grow. To move forward into something new. How hard it could be to carve one’s own path and who might have to be left behind in the process."
A powerful quote that stood with me throughout was "Because I do not know how to give more without having nothing left for myself!"
That quote really showed how much Arabessa shouldered especially when it came to wanting to be with Zimri.
Zimri is such a strong mmc and his story was just as heartbreaking in its own way. He was burdened with responsibilities set by his parents before they passed, and wanting to make them proud and keep the family bame in high esteem. As well as this, he wanted to be with Arabessa. He didn't want their relationship to be hidden. If you notice their journey it is very hard and twisted for any of it to come easily because of the difficult choices that must be made. If they are to be together, it has to be in absolutes. For Zimri it was either having Macabris or Arabessa and giving up Macabris would mean disappointing his parents. Again, being in zimri's mind and seeing the choices he made was incredible. He was a perfect balance to Arabessa because he was just as self sacrificing. The way he spoke about Arabessa and called her "my music" absolutely melted my heart. Their chemistry was undeniable and just the stolen moments they had together played on the heart strings.
"Arabessa...music of my heart."
The plot with all its twists and trials really showed each characters strength and ability to overcome.
It was such a pleasure to read.
The ending of the book was just powerful "Arabessa chose to sit in her power."
