Another win for Murderbot!!!

I absolutely devoured this one— I was listening constantly and couldn’t put it down! I enjoyed it a lot and I loved the change of pace with the investigation on Preservation Station as opposed to the planet hopping and big-scale dramas of some of the other stories.

My only complaint is that I found that the denouement was frustratingly off-page, which makes sense for a Murderbot report / story telling style, but we get so much detail about everything else that it seemed strange to skip over so much of the resolution.

Otherwise the story was perfection and I loved the development of trust between Murderbot and Inda, as well as watching MB navigate this new world where it is respected as a person/being but also is coming up against so many social challenges it isn’t used to.

I’m absolutely heartbroken I only have System Collapse left of the series, because then I’m just going to be waiting for ages for the next release :(

Finally finished the series! I can't believe I read the last 2 books out of order 😭
Another great book in an amazing series. Not only do I love Murderbot, but I always love all the new characters. Martha Wells you are a god amongst men 🙇‍♀️

Although the book is great as a standalone short story, it doesn't compare to the other books in the series in my opinion, especially considering how amazing the last novel before this one was (Network Effect). This feels like a filler book, which although does serve to extend Murderbot's backstory about its life and role in Preservation, doesn't have a very strong character development and kind of interrupts the flow of the story after Network Effect. I'd recommend reading it if you're craving to know more about Murderbot's job in Preservation, with a bit of a murder mystery, but otherwise, you can skip right ahead to the next book (System Collapse).

This was a good story, but it really didn't feel like a sequel to the previous book. So far the Murderbot Diaries really have been a series. A continuation of one overarching story. This book was much more self-contained. I don't think that's inherently a bad thing. I could definitely see the series becoming something like a Nancy Drew where it doesn't really matter what order you read them in. It's just that Network Effect left some loose threads that this book didn't address at all, which was confusing. Besides that, it was cool to see Murderbot continuing to try to find their place in society and what it means to be free.
