Absolutely delightful! The diary style chapters work really well for the progression of the story.  I loved the use of traditional fairy lore from around the world.

Wonderful lighthearted reading! Highly recommend

I was excited to finally dive into this buzziest of books from last year. And I found myself delightfully entrancedby the end, but I was also totally thrown off guard by the format of the book. I was not expecting the field journal style narration, but I did come to enjoy Emily's unique take on her time in Hrafnsvik.

I found the "romance" between Emily and Bambleby to be a bit shoe horned for my liking. She clearly enjoyed him as a foil to her own knowledge, but had almost no inkling toward him in a romantic way before he proposed, or nearly after for that matter. I almost would have rather he stayed a dear friend and not entered the arena as a possible lover. It all just felt very afterthought and, yes it gave him a reason to help save her, but it felt like the weakest plot thread, since we got so little of the story from Bambleby's POV.

A very cozy fantasy that's perfect for an autumnal read! I'm not a big fantasy reader, but the way this book was written, the characters, and the world building was very enjoyable. It was especially comforting to read for me personally as someone who has just completed a master's program, and I already miss the academic world. So I thought that it was fun to read a fantasy that was written as a scientific journal by a scholar. I also enjoyed the fonts used and all the fun footnotes. By the end I started to lose interest a little, but it was still mostly fun and exciting. I didn't care that much about the romance, but the romance wasn't the main focus of the book anyway. But I still think it would be fun to read the second book in this series, since I really liked the writing style and the world building. It would be fun to follow Emily and Wendell in their next adventure.

Just so freaking charming and delightful. Nerdy fairy academic, and a grumpy female lead? Who then inadvertently learns the power of community and helping others and then letting them help you?! SO DELIGHTFUL!

Absolutely loved this story. I appreciated the main character having mixed motivations and a different mindset than the traditional main character in a fantasy novel.
