When they say short story, they really mean it. This was probably the first chapter of book 1, it ends so abruptly and now I want to read the series again. It's just Saris preparing to leave. It's a well done little story.

A novella that simply didn't need to exist.

This freebie short story is a prequel to A. H. Lee's The Knight and the Necromancer series. I liked being able to get a taste of Lee's writing style and worldbuilding before deciding if I wanted to start reading the series in earnest. I felt like I got good sense of the fantasy world and the protagonist, which is pretty impressive for a short story. I will definitely read more!

This is a very short story that acts as a prologue to the rest of this series.

It present to us Sairis and even from such a short story we can see his personality: sweet but also snarky. Curious, desperate to learn and to know... everything.

It's not meant to be read as a stand-alone, just so you know.

And of course, as always, Kirt Graves' narration is wonderful.

I haven't read the Knight and the Necromancer series yet, though I've heard a lot about it. After listening to this short story though, I've definitely moved it up on my TBR.
