The plot was more interesting than the romance, but even that came to an anti-climatic end.
I didn’t get the falling in love aspect for these two. There really wasn’t much time spent together and even that was interrupted by children, the traveling, and coming and going of Leander in relation to the two plot threads.
And the ending was so abrupt leaving me less than satisfied with this story.

Second chance

A good read about taking a chance on a second marriage. Title is a bit of a misnomer since Christmas barely enters into the story until the last chapter.

Nice story. I like this Rogues series but found this one just okay (#3). The main characters, Leander and Judith, did not particularly intriguing. The story did not require a lot of thought or effort, which was what I wanted from a book at the time. I have the next couple of titles in the series and plan to find out if they are more interesting. I really enjoyed the first two books in the series.

I loved Lee and Judith love story. The basis of the story is interesting, she's a widow and he's a man who finds himself unable to love. As it was predictable love happens. Yes, these love stories are very predictable, but those who like the genre cannot but admire this author. Jo Beverly takes us to the season in a wonderful way.
I also liked that there was space for the other two couples of the previous books.

This is an atypical Regency romance for Beverley or so I've read. I was really happy to find that the whole woman as possession was tone down to a whisper in this book. Both Leander and Judith are longing for a marriage based on honesty, friendship and the desire to make a home. Judith has been nicknamed the Weeping Widow by the villagers, Leander is looking to marry without the foolish emotion of love and wants friendship and a solid honest relationship instead. He finds a ready made family with Judith and her two children. No real villains in this story, just two persons learning to love each other without realizing it. I found it an agreeable read, something like a nice cup of tea with with your favorite cookies on a Sunday afternoon.

I seem to be averaging two romances a month. My mom would be horrified. She does not read for escape, she reads for learning, for improving her mind. Mostly, I am over her condemnation of my reading habits, because I know that there is only so much reading time left. I have decided life is too short to read only for improving my mind. I want to enjoy what I am reading and there are fewer calories in romance books than in a box of chocolates.

I read some of Jo Beverley's books before I started keeping track on this website. I like her writing style, her characters and the way she links this series together with the male characters. All in all, this was a fun read.

Possibly a few too many B plots? But the part in the tree with Leander and Bastian is very sweet.
