This book was way to long, it started to get repetitive. I liked the beginning of this even though it was hard to read with the fat phobia and bullying. Also I didn’t really see the relationship between the main characters honestly. Then we did a time jump and of course she has a weight loss plot. I did kind of like the second half, but she hardly tired to get back at him. I like the jealousy though. The plot line with the dad and sister were good. I also liked the side characters. I don’t know this was fine, but it was simply to long and phoenix got off and forgiven to easily.

I was hooked, sometimes spellbind and then I was frustrated.
The story is great, characters are developed, some sensible subjects are delicately discussed (mental health, death of loved one, dementia, abandonment). It is deep, sensible, accurate.
The spice is great: angry smex which transforms in love making is one of my fav kind of spice.

I love Phoenix and Lennon’s story.
Even though the end is too rushed for my liking, just because I wanted more.

Tropes:
Sassy and curvy FM
Rockstar
Second chance
Enemies to lovers
Boy obsessed
FMC is seeking for revenge

The audiobook is narrated by Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton in dual narration. And it is perfect.

If you want pure emotional baggage and toxicity this is the book! I’m not even saying that as a bad thing, I actually liked reading this. Whilst at the start I didn’t like Phoenix and his behaviour, especially after the timeskip, this sort of feels like a guilty pleasure read, I loved it and hate that I love it. The love Phoenix has for Lennon (once he eventually admitted to it) played a huge role in how I felt about Phoenix overall, you could tell bro loved her he just was not emotionally mature enough to admit it and go about it in other, less toxic, ways.

Lennons character as a whole could’ve used faaaarr more development though, even after the timeskip she still felt like the same Lennon from high school but just hid her insecurities more instead of overcoming them gradually and being a more confident within herself. To see she basically had no growth after the timeskip nor resilience built following the situation she was in was disappointing.

The revenge plot didn’t give what it was supposed to gave either, kinda felt buried almost immediately, really would’ve preferred it played out and that be the conflict than what we go and the ending felt super rushed for a 600+ page book. That being said though, I did damn near cry a lot and despite my words I liked it.

This book was well written and had a well developed story line but it made me SOB. I hate when they promise a HEA but make you cry beforehand haha!

The early timeline I was into, I was invested. And then it all imploded with the second timeline. I’ve never been so eager to see characters earn their redemption only to never do anything to actually earn it. The MMC is the most infuriatingly selfish character I’ve read in a long time.
His wife’s dad dies and his first thought is…he’s upset she isn’t putting out while she’s GRIEVING?!?!? Literally never had more ick
that and the FMC is a complete doormat. At the beginning you think she gained confidence and is control after 4 years but noooooo she literally goes BACKWARDS. I kept listening because the narrators were fab though. But wow there was so much possibility here and completely squandered by the worst main characters.

I stayed up all night to finish this one. Holy cow.

First of all, the cover is smoking hot.
Ok then. Phoenix and Lennon have all the chemistry and all the angst that I look for. The sex is off the charts. The supporting characters, from the band to Lennon's family, are perfection.
I read this book in KU and immediately bought it. I ordered the paperback too. I want the words. All of them.
And the audio. Erin Mallon is one of my favorites, and Teddy Hamilton, he's always perfect. They knocked it out of the park. Of course.
