This would've made a fine, if not extremely horny, episode.

If you want a Star Trek novel where women are sex objects, no one’s descriptions are accurate to the show, and the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is directly compared to Adolf Hitler, this book may be for you. Points for being an insight into what was allowed to be published in decades past.

it’s definitely not a high point for the bantam star trek books, and honestly i would recommend skipping it

A highly surprising ending makes this book am excellent addition to any library. The idea behind dops is ingenious and a curious future should the idea prove a reality.

The incredulity of the story line was partially ameliorated by several clever twists. It even became quite funny, albeit, non-intentionally.

The book is marred greatly by the sexist attitudes and awful treatment of Ensign George. Aside from that major problem, the scenes of dialogue between Kirk and McCoy are well handled and faithful to the characters. Also both Scotty and Chekhov are in character here as well. The concept that Spock has been contaminated by the mind of a delusional messiah gets old after awhile, unfortunately. Due to his take-over this book has hardly any characterization of Spock that anyone would recognize, and for much of the action he is off stage.
