No doubt, Dolly Parton is an impressive, strong and talented woman. Her confidence is inspiring. She came from humble beginnings and owns her success and credits her hard work.
The audiobook is odd. It's only one side of an interview (you don't hear the interviewers questions, and she doesn't always answer in complete sentences and when that happens you're reminded that it's only one half of the conversation.

Dolly! What is there not to love about this precious woman?!?!
I grew up listening to Dolly and have loved her my whole life. Listening to her story by audiobook was fantastic!!! I loved hearing her tell the stories about her life and the background behind her songs. It was her words, told her way. Dolly is not only a talented woman, but has such a sweet spirit that I love!!

I listened to this book on Audible. What an incredible story, what an incredible woman! I can’t remember a time in my life when Dolly wasn’t there - she is definitely the hardest working woman in the business. Still, until recently, I took her presence - and her staying power - for granted, as did many folks, I fear. Dolly’s is a story of determination, perseverance, intelligence, and humility. “Don’t judge the book by its cover. Underneath the hair, there’s a brain; behind the boobs, a heart.” This book was a complete joy to listen to. I only wish some songs had been played in their entirety and that the audio book had come with a pdf of photos.

It was so fun to hear Dolly Parton talk about her life and music! I especially recommend the audio version since Dolly speaks most of it and they play her songs throughout as well.

You're not going to get a deeply personal memoir from Dolly, but that's ok. She knows what she's about, and like she says, it all goes into her music anyway. This is still an interesting look at decades of songs — maybe not EVERY song, but LOTS of them, and I learned a lot. I listened to this via Audible streaming, so it's in her own words (with some transitions by Robert K. Oermann), and there are snippets of some of the songs. Worth a listen if Audible throws you a free month.
