This is so tender and emotionally so close to home for me. A young girl who wants to know her biological roots, while steadfastly holding the hands of her very real family. Loved.

Without giving too much plot away, this is a beautiful story of a young orphan named Crow and her search for the family that gave her away. For me, the minor plot line involving the capture of jewel thief was a little too far fetched for me to sustain my suspension of disbelief toward the end. But, I was wholly satisfed with the story and its conclusion. Wonderful characters and a setting that feels like an additional character. I am sure this will be a serious Newbery contender, and deservedly so.

This is a book I normally wouldn't pick up, but it came highly recommended. Since it's not the type I would normally read, it took a little bit for me to get into. I found the historical fiction aspect a little jarring for some reason. The writing, although beautiful at times, took some adjustment in the beginning. With that said, by the end I was hooked. Wolk does a great job of crafting a mystery and retaining the voice of the character of Crow. I was rooting for her!

One of the best historical fictions I've read in a long time. Such interesting characters and fascinating story.

Absolutely lovely and just so vibrant. This will be one that I can see kids on the edge of their seats reading.
