just really disliked the beginning

especially w the power imbalance w sadie and dov.

honestly found sadie and sam annoying in their 20s. they're kind of terrible actually. but pretty sure that was the point

Ok I know this is an international best seller but I just don't think it was for me. I didn't love the writing style. And the ending was less than satisfactory. I loved most of the supporting characters like Marx, and Ant and Ants partner (whose name I can't remember). And I actually did begin to love Sam for exactly who he was about halfway through the book although I didn't like him in the beginning. But I never really liked Sadie and I had a hard time with their dynamic.

It had a good pace and nice focus on a special, deep friendship. It is not the most realistic story out there, but it does not have to be. Felt influenced by Normal People (Sally Rooney) and A little life (Hanya Yanagihara), but still keeping love and overcoming challenges at the heart of the story, rather than digging a deep hole of misery. Easy to read, not earthshatteringly unique or fascinating in terms of story and language, but still captivating.

there were parts of this book that I devoured - particularly the middle - and parts that made me wonder if I wanted to finish it (the beginning). in the end, I'm glad I did. but I found my curiosity surrounding the characters to be stronger than any actual development that happened...a win is a win though.
