I loved this book as someone who was obsessed with games at one point and wanted start a company and make games with my friend this book was like as if they looked inside my brain. Going into this book I had high hopes and it dis not disappoint for the most part.
I didnot like the part of the pioneers

I hated dov and how it necessary
for sadie to go back to him
I personally think that ending could have been better for both sadie and sam.

First of all I really liked the prose, Zevin is a good writer, it really flowed and there were beautiful sentences in there.
I loved the first 70% of the book, the last 30% wasn't on the same level for me
the writing and pacing, but also I just kind of hated that Marx had to die :(

Overall it reminded me of A Little Life in some ways. Especially Marx
as he was almost too good to be true, but more in a "parable" sense in the same way A Little Life felt to me. And the way they cared for Sam who had some physical ailments (and not so great at taking care of himself, though he got better about it) was very remeniscent of Jude in A Little Life

Very loveable characters and a nice portrait of friendship.
You don't have to be a gamer to read this (I'm not, apart from some Animal Crossing, Candy Crush and Hay Day, lmao), but I'm old enough to remember "early" games and consoles and I think that did help.
I also really loved the secondary characters - Dong and Bong, Ant and Simon - they really added to the book for me.
Also, I'd love to play some of the games from this book!

This book was great. The NPC chapter had me SOBBING! But… a lot of things. Would not recommend especially if you aren’t a gamer lol

I adored this book. I love the relationships and how complex and human everyone is. When a character is in the wrong,
unless it's Dov, hated that guy,
I can still love them in a way that proves the author truly understood people and made the charcters have such a depth that I don't usually see. Even the character I hated the most became one who I could appreciate at some points.

there were parts of this book that I devoured - particularly the middle - and parts that made me wonder if I wanted to finish it (the beginning). in the end, I'm glad I did. but I found my curiosity surrounding the characters to be stronger than any actual development that happened...a win is a win though.
