There are so many great stories written by this author but this was one of the first my daughter could read herself!

We both love hedgehogs so we particularly enjoyed this one.

Poor little Max the hedgehog is desperate and determined to cross the busy road to get to the park on the other side. Unfortunately his first attempt leads to him getting bumped on the head and he gets all his words mixed up and becomes a 'hodgeheg' instead of a 'hedgehog!'
This was one of the funniest parts in the story (Max tries to explain himself to his family.) My daughter found it hilarious!
Little Max is undeterred and continues on his quest!

A funny, heart warming story. Such a great book to read aloud. It also has absolutely gorgeous illustrations throughout the book. Perfect for a new reader!

We had to read this book in class when I was eight and I still remember the enjoyment I got out of it and the following assignments based around the story.
It is a wonderful story and I will always have fond memories of little Max and his adventures.

Low 5/6 book club. Some visualising and inferrring.

Nice wordplay (hodgeheg) courtesy of Max’s
concussion

Decent characterisation for character profiles, prediction opportunities.

Making connections will be marginally challenging thanks to British setting but still viable.
