the author has no subtlety when handling delicate and political topics, which, when combined with the multiple homophobic characters, created a decidedly un-cosy experience for me (a lesbian).

also it just wasn't that engaging of a mystery.

The bad characters are super misogynistic and homophobic. It’s set in Singapore, so a lot of the characters are homophobic, but it’s made clear that homophobia is bad. It’s super prevalent in the book though.

I've been listening as I work. I wanted something light and easy to listen to, and Emily Woo Zeller is one of my favorite narrators. Took a break from working and realized I don't care about the story or any of the characters, so I'm not going to keep listening. One of the character's voices is also super annoying. There's nothing making me want to keep going.

This was fun, cute, and quick. Find it in Book Riot's "diverse cozy mysteries" list. The pacing was off, though, which made it less exciting, and it felt jumpy listening to this one on audio.
