This book I believe is the first book I have read this year and also the first nonteen book review I am doing for this blog. I have read a lot of other adult books but I think starting with this one is a good idea. Since I got it off my already read book list for this year on goodreads. I'm suppose to read seventy-five books by the end of the year and I have read forty-one. I'm quite happy with what I have accomplished so far. I actually think I started reading this on our road trip/move from California to Montana.

My interest in this series is quickly dwindling. Book 1 was cute, and I was intrigued by the colorful characters in Whispering Falls, Kentucky. But I don't know if I can continue. The dialogue is terrible. It reads like a high school creative writing project at times. The purple prose pops up at the most awkward times and completely pulls me out of the story. I could overlook this and just enjoy the plot, but I am discovering how much I dislike the main character, June. June is insecure--a character trait I absolutely hate. She eats ding dongs non-stop, which is strange, but more importantly, she just isn't very smart. If she would stop and think before acting she would avoid most of her troubles. She is ridiculously naive about her relationship with her best friend, Oscar. I can handle the, "will they or won't they" nonsense. Hey, they are both 25 years old. No need to rush into anything. But her inner dialogue makes me cringe, and I just don't like her.
I will give book 3 a final shot before throwing in the towel, but it isn't looking good for me continuing the series. Sorry, June, you may have to continue on without me.

I met the author a couple of months ago at the local SOKY Bookfest & she was super sweet. There are a few little errors / inconsistencies with this book that do take away from it a bit or are distracting. BUT, the author was so nice, I'm willing to overlook those. I think the story itself is a bit flimsy but the author does a great job of describing her world so you can easily use your imagination to put you in there as well. All in all, it was worth the $2.99 I spent on it from Amazon & I will keep reading this series.

This is book two of Magical Cures Mystery series. June Heal, A Magical Cures shopkeeper, lives in Whispering Falls Kentucky. This is a small town where its residents have some special little magic in them. When her great aunt Helena the dean at Hidden Hall A Spiritualist University shows up Junes world us turned upside down. Joining the school she is immediately thrown into a mystery she must solve or something dark might take over the world with serious magical consequences.
I enjoyed the book from beginning to end. The characters are funny, magical and entertaining. The details and descriptions bring the town and the school to life specially all the magical characters. I like the level of suspense and mystery to the story it really keeps you captivated. There were parts that had me laughing especially the conversations between June and Madame Torres. With all the characters from the town and the way the book ends with Oscar it leaves it just right to keep going with more exciting and mysterious adventures with June. It was a light and easy read, although it did have some misprints and a few editing issues but overall a good book I'll be looking forward to the next book.

There's a couple typos but this is a fun story that reads quickly. The main character, June Heal, has recently moved to Whispering Falls where she runs a potions shop called The Charming Cure. There's a lot of magical characters in the town (and set-up for future stories). It will be interesting to see where this series goes.
