This is a holiday Christmas read set at the Plaza in NYC. I bought the book because I was told the plot includes discussions of Eloise and her adventures at the Plaza. This is a miscommunication trope from beginning to end. Usually I donât mind miscommunication when itâs implemented in the 3rd act of a romance novel, but I didnât enjoy the miscommunication for the entire book. Many scenes seemed recycled and re-used over the course of the book. There was also an annoying amount of body shaming, fatphobia, and food policing. As a fat reader, I almost DNFâd multiple times due to discussions of âgood foodâ and âbad food.â I donât think people turn to magical holiday reads to get ANOTHER dose of fatphobia that is so prevalent from November-February each year. If youâre looking for a holiday read that has a royal element, a great romance, and celebrates food, read âRoyal Holidayâ by Jasmine Guillory instead. The only reason I kept reading this book was for Eloise.Â
Graphic: Fatphobia and Body shaming
Minor: Misogyny and Racism
