The first 1/2 of this book is one of the most effective horror novels that I've ever read. It is not supernatural but feels real, all too real. If a horror novel is supposed to cause you to be negatively emotionally affected, this book succeeds.

The last of the book is good, but more a conventional mystery that is OK but not as good as the beginning.

By the middle of the book, I was so caught up, I could not put it down. I have spent most of the day trying to just figure out what the secret was... I won't say more because it would be a spoiler. I'll definitely be reading Chevy's other books.

Man this one was a bit rough. I definitely enjoyed it, but sometimes when it was during the flashbacks with The Freak it was hard to stomach sometimes

The feeling of how Annie was manipulated by multiple people before and after her abduction I thought was very well written. I definitely felt the tense feelings Annie went through

I also enjoyed the jumping around of Annie talking to her therapist - since therapy isn’t always a straight line of trying to figure things out

I also saw the main twist coming but I feel it worked really well with showing the narcissism that had been involved

STILL MISSING
Written by Chevy Stevens
2010, St. Martin's Press (352 pages)
Genre: mystery, suspense, psychological, Canadian

RATING: ★★★★1/2

WOW! What an amazing psychological suspense thriller. I have not read a suspense book this absorbing in a long time. It is written by a Canadian author - Vancouver in particular - so that caught my eye right away. I enjoyed the Canadian references and the descriptions as it fits what I see every day. It is from the point of view of an abductee and is well-written with a rawness and compassion that I have not seen in awhile. Still Missing has you from the moment she is taken from the street and I had a great afternoon and evening reading! Ripped from the headlines of missing women held hostage, we get the point of view of the victim.
