This book is a gut-punch of a book. It has so much in it and Alyson Derrick really put her whole self in it. This story is about coming out, first love, and how love conquers all even in the face of those who don’t understand. The last bit of the book had me crying. I really felt like my heart was so full. This book is for the gays with religious trauma also and I had ALL the feels.

“We spent all of our time tucked back in those woods together, and somehow, we didn't just survive there, we thrived. Our relationship blossomed all alone in the dark. And finally, finally, we were about to step into the light when in an instant, it was all taken away anyway"

This was a very enjoyable YA book. I initially picked it up because the premise sounded so different from other YA books and it's definitely one of the better ones. I flew through the book. It was so easy to read and get into. The romance was cute and the characters were fine. While I did enjoy it, I didn't get much depth from the relationship and wish we had more time with Stevie and Nora as a couple before Stevie's accident. Also, I think it would have made the character of Nora more developed if we had alternating chapters of hers and Stevie's point of view instead of just Stevie's. This is probably another book that I won't really remember much about after a few days. This was a cute, fast, enjoyable read, I just wish there was more depth and more about it that stood out to me.
