In The English Assassin we are invited to learn more about Gabriel Allon... and what we learn makes him even more interesting. This story unfolds with a journey and a death (of course, lol) and how it progresses is fascinating. I learned about Switzerland, art, and music. I highly recommend this series and I am eagerly awaiting the third installment in this series.

James Bond was fighting against an imaginary criminal organization called Spectre; Gabriel Allon was fighting against the historical enemies of the Jews in Europe and the Middle East. Bond was authorized by the Queen, Allon by the State of Israel. Gabriel Allon seems far more real in today's world of terrorism.

Again, beautiful venues stretching from Cornwall to Portugal to Venice to Zurich.

A book well worth reading.

Enjoyed this plot. Interesting plotline on Switzerland's role with Nazi Germany- money and Jewish artwork

3 and a half.

I liked this one much more than the first in this series. I like that the main character is not always the winner, that technology is used against him and he gets caught. He is not indestructibly powerful though he is very smart. I am interested to see how Silva continues to develop this character.
