I had already read the novel going into this, so my review will focus on the illustrations.
The illustrations for me are hard to get excited about sometimes. Some of it was so so cool, like the ghost children scene, but I was hoping for a very faithful adaptation of the visuals described in the novel and I don’t think it 100% delivered. (Although it probably would have been too scary for children if it was completely faithful.)
I think overall it was hard for me to enjoy the visuals of this graphic novel because the movie is just SO vibrant and unique and creative and meticulously beautiful.

Overall I had a nice time looking at another take on one of my favorite stories/fictional worlds.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel adaptation overall, as it was quite faithful to the novel and had wonderful art, but at times it felt like the text was telling something that could have been shown. Part of what makes the novel version so wonderful is of course the writing. There are so many lovely and creepy turns of phrase and the storytelling is very well crafted. This graphic novel at times relied too heavily on the text itself, rather than letting the art show us. Feels a bit weird to say, but I would have preferred fewer words in this version.
