It's okay. Typical YA heroine. I wanted a bit more from the world building.

Oh my freaking god. Oh my god. This book is one of the best books I've read in awhile. A long while.
Alex is such a strong character which I love. I mean, who likes whiny characters?!
There were so many surprising twists, none of which were predictable except for her true identity...
Spoiler I didn't expect her mom to become a daimon. No way, I thought she died already! It was so shocking. :(

The passion in this book is unbearable. Forget what I said about other books, nothing can compare to this! I love how the relationship between Alex and Aiden and the little game they play. How they flirt with each other. Everything!
Alex is so hilarious! Her antics are so wild and her jabs are well played. >:)
Overall, my favorite book ever and you should check it out!! I cannot wait til 2012!!

FYI: This book is alarmingly similar to Vampire Academy so if you hate books that copy ideas from others, then stay away... But this book is totally better than Vampire Academy and you'll regret ever avoiding this book!

**EDIT** I feel that the similarity between this and VA is too close to be ignored and that it actually isn't right. I agree with many on how this is basically a fanfic. BUT, the sequels do branch off from VA so...

I find this book somehow very similar to the Vampire Academy. But as the story advances, it turns out to be completely different....

This book was published almost a decade ago and it shows. Half-Blood makes a good attempt at a complete set of all the old-school YA tropes, including an angsty love triangle and an unwelcome appearance of slut shaming and girl hate. Combined with very little plot and a mediocre main character, there is little I can find to enjoy here in 2020. I'm sure 13-year-old me would have cherished this alongside Hush Hush and Fallen, but 23-year-old me is not impressed.

About a third of my way through this book, I had to stop and google if this was some sort of FanFiction for Vampire Academy. ( I obviously didn't read the GoodReads reviews before purchasing this) I even checked publishing dates, just in case this came out around the same time or before VA to explain the BLATANT copy of the story line. Sadly nothing came from my search, but the fact that this was published 4 years after VA.... sketchy.

I almost didn't finish it because it was so similar. The saving grace of this book was the last third of it. It took on a life of its own, THANK GOD.

If I had never read VA, I would have loved this story 5 stars all the way. Because VA is my favorite series of all time. I will read the next one in hopes that it the story develops and becomes a separate entity, because i'm almost positive the first 2/3 of this book are basically plagiarism.

This was a fast, fun, and entertaining read! I’m a huge fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s recent books so I wanted to read some of her (very very large) backlist. This series is Greek mythology based with the descendants of the Greek gods attending school at the Covenant. I’ve read reviews about it being a pretty gnarly rip-off of The Vampire Academy but I’ve never read those books, so I don’t have anything to compare it to. I will say JLA’s writing has improved tremendously since writing this book, but I look forward to reading the rest soon from my library!
