2.5 stars This was a fun ride - I liked the characters (even though David was on the border of tstl), the writing was decent and the universe interesting. I'll probably read the next on in the series.

This was a WONDERFUL book! I loved it from Chapter 1 and enjoyed it more and more as the book progressed.

It's a great fantasy book (think dragon shifters, fae, vampires, seelie, curses, and mysteries) combined with practical human interactions. David's pop culture references and action toys, his very human and practical way of looking at problems and solving them, and his fantastic sense of humor made this book a real joy to read.

I also loved the Beauty and the Beast retelling, with Alun's cursed appearance (and his very grumpy demeanor) casting him in the role of the Beast. The way he tried his best to keep his distance from David was both cute and frustrating, because David realises way before Alun that their love would help both men live the lives they deserved and needed. Regardless of how Alun looks,

As this is the first book in the series, it packs quite a punch in terms of characters and world-building, and it's a lot for a reader to keep up with. Luckily, we learned these things with David, and his confusion and then sense-making really helped me make sense of it all as well.

I loved the side characters in this story (David and Benji were so cute!). and I am really looking forward to reading Mal and Gareth's stories next.

So much fun.

I adored this book.
Loved David but it was Alan (and Joel Leslie's portrayal of him) that stole my heart.

Enjoyable holiday fare that felt a little immature regardless.

Such a fun book! It's based on Beauty and the Beast, where Alun is the beast, a fae who was cursed to be ugly, after the death of his lover. He's spent the last 200 years exiled from Faery, living in the human world, and currently works as a psychologist for supes.

David fits in perfectly with Alun's world, even though David knows nothing about the supernatural, and Alun fights against him being there with his very being. They just work.

But of course, with faeries, all is not as it seems, especially not David! Of course, he comes to love Alun in spite of his curse, and becomes even more important than he ever dreamed, and it's all just so sweet and fun. Now I'm asking myself why I waited so long to read this, and ready for the other brothers.

This was super cute! I loved David and his constant pop culture references, optimism, and terrible dancing. Alun was gruff but caring, and the twist about his curse was fascinating.

My one minor complaint is that it could have used a sex scene other than the frottage midway through. Yeah, I like penetrative sex. So sue me. Still highly recommended, and I look forward to the brothers' books.

*second time through over three years later and the lack of more sex scenes didn’t bother me a bit. Guess my priorities have changed.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. Honestly, based on the title, the cover, and even the blurb, I thought it would be a little silly. It wasn't. I mean, don't get me wrong, there was humor, but the story itself was pretty serious. Not only were the characters interesting, but the world was fascinating, too. I'd happily read more books about all kinds of things that were presented in this one (Alun's brothers, his clients, David's aunts). I won't lie, I called the "twist" pretty early on in the book, but the way it played out was still fun to read. I look forward to checking out the rest of the series.
