Oh my word this novel. This novel. It has got me in the feels.
Such a unique fantasy world. With very striking ideas.
Characters wonderfully complex to fall in love with and utterly revile.
More of this please.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. The world building was fascinating and the characters unique. It was great to read a book with LGBT protagonists where their sexuality was not the focal point of the story. I’m looking forward to reading Book 2.
Loved the worldbuilding, loved the characters - would have been a five star but the plot and relationships felt like they needed more space to breathe.
Superb characterisation. Life on the wharf is so well captured and this expands throughout the novel. The blend of the magic and science works well through the grit and grim of normal life.
Different, and full of the unexpected. It's a engaging read, just when you think you know where things are going, the author switches track. Like Danie Ware's other work Children Artifice lives on with you after you close the book.
