Stunning. Loved this so much. Definitely in the contention to be in my top books of the year. I can understand how it got so much praise. Fascinating characters. Fantastic scifi multiverse travel mechanism. Great plot. Wonderful writing. Just read it. Summa cum laude.

"You make it sound like a job," Nik Nik says.
"It is. My job is the only reason I'm here."
They all seem deflated by that. I'm not sure what they thought I was, but they find employed a letdown.

Just finished this yesterday. Was giving it a 3, then it went up to a 4, then dropped back to a 3. I liked the world-building, although folks have raised some interesting points - like why is the world like it is? Is it a metaphor for our own world? Classism, racism, ruran-urban divide all wrapped up into the Wiley v Ashtown dichotomy?

I felt like the ending was a bit pat/rushed. I think I would have wanted someone to have died from the same stuff the MC was purported to have put into Adam's eye drops so that we could see how terrible it was. As it was, it is mentioned at some point in the middle in passing - and that she needs to destroy it - but we aren't *shown* the effects of it. "Show don't tell" per creative writing 101 class.

The Dell v Cara subplot was excruciating in its suspense - I wanted them to figure out that they both loved each other much earlier. That was nicely handled, although again the resolution of that felt sort of pat - even though we did end up with an HEA (Happy Ever After), sort of...
