Okay, this book was a little better than the first one, insofar that there was a little more structure to the plot. There were some scenes that I found enjoyable and rooted for the characters to persevere, and some of the plot twists took me by surprise. I even found myself thinking that, with a different focus or maybe another author, the premise could have been super cool.

THAT SAID, this was still mostly trash. Super violent for violence’s sake; the use of sexual assault for shock value was still super rampant; and the character motivations were alllll over the place. The back and forth of “will they, won’t they, they did, they won’t again, oh but they did again, but hey look, more torture” got boring quick, even while the descriptions of viscera and bodily harm got more and more graphic.

Cornell Collins is putting his entire soul into reading these books, and with someone even 10% less talented I’d have no doubt I would have DNF’d immediately. As it stands, I am not going to finish this awful series.

This was an improvement on the first book, a lot more actual plot progression and character development happened. It did have one of my least favorite tropes make an appearance in the latter half
push other character away and seemingly betray them FoR tHeIr OwN gOoD
which annoyed me but fortunately the fallout didn’t drag on forever.

Who would've thought that I would actually start to like Eroan, after he annoyed me to no end in the first one? Not me.
It was so beautiful to see his relationship with Lysander build. His growing faith and feelings. Lysander finally has someone who loves him and cares for him for the first time in his life. But boy, he still had to go. through. it. He had to endure so many horrible things and my heart broke for him over and over again. I really hope he will get his well deserved happy ending in the last book.
For other characters: Seraph is just the best and I love her to death. Nye can go and f*** himself. Akiem did some terrible things to Lysander but their relationship is still pretty grey, so I'm very curious what role he's going to play from here on out.

Eroan continues to be kind of infuriating, Lysander continues to be the best person ever I would literally die for him
