I liked the pockets of humor in the narrative. It took me a while to remember the former plot lines, but it was an interesting read.

Very slow to start...almost annoying at the beginning but once I got past the first 50 pages maybe, the story picked up and was enjoyable. 3.5 stars.

::Shocked by my own rating:: Keeping in mind that two stars for Jasper Fforde is as good as three+ stars elsewhere....

While I really loved the expanded look at the BookUniverse (Mimefields? Fan Fiction Island? Support Groups for siblings of famous literary characters? Yes Please) and Sprockett was great, Written Thursday as a main character is just not the same as the Real Thursday. A lot not the same. This book felt like big detour.

Loved it, but missed the "real" Thursday's voice in this one. Still funny and clever, though!

Literary fantasy fans rejoice, there is a sixth volume in Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series and it is just as much fun and filled with just as many literary allusions as the previous five books. In order to enjoy this incredible series fully, my recommendation is to read the series in order. Jasper Fforde--I'm in love with the characters in this series so please keep the adventures of Thursday Next coming.

The initial premise and writing of this book is shockingly ridiculous, but that only highlights the decent characters and plot. Fforde knows exactly how seriously to take his writing and dances around cliches, using them to his advantage. They'res a character named Red Herring, and the entire time you wonder weather or not he's a Red Herring, trying to guess what level Fforde is thinking on. That being said, it's far from perfect. After 6 books, the concepts beginning to get a little played out. Switching the main character out for her fictional copy helped with this, giving us a new character to work with, but the books all feel kinda samey and similar. Fforde could also stand to set up his ending a bit better, as the big reveal looses a bit of punch since I didn't catch all of the setup. But it's so unique, you have to ignore the flaws and read it anyways.
