Ng writes about such difficult but important topics so beautifully. the characters and intersecting storylines were so complex. the tale of motherhood and what makes a mother is such a difficult plot line to create but I think Ng did a great job of portraying what it felt like to be a daughter of a flawed mother. i felt a hatred but a sympathy for all the characters which allowed the story to feel realistic. i wish there wasn’t so many lose ends but i think a lot of the story was left open ended in order to interject ur own morals and opinions.

Incredibly well written work by Celeste Ng. Complex story with well developed characters. None of the characters are very likable, but they are interesting.

A fantastic book that makes you want to keep reading. The character development is SO strong. Every character feels three dimensional and even the antagonists have redeeming qualities that makes you feel for them.

As with all of Ng's books, the characters are developed beautifully and I was immediately invested. The ending was horribly tragic, but in a per ect  way.

The ending picks up quickly and makes the book for me. I felt so much build up and for the first 2/3 of the novel I felt I was missing something, but it all comes together at once for a final 1/3 that kept me gripped. Big rec for people who want to explore mother daughter relationships, avoid if you do not!

I really enjoyed this book, although it stressed me out. The author does a great job of portraying privilege and putting the reader into the headspace of people who hurt others.

Heart wrenching book filled with the intense family dynamics hiding beneath a "perfect" family and the murkiness and uncertainty when there is no clear "right" answer.
