Loved this book. It felt like being on an edge - I wasn’t sure which way the story would twist. Is it Sci-fi, earth magic, spiritual, or is this woman losing her mind?

Also, I wish I knew what happened to the community (not spoiling this for anyone ;) )! There isn’t a major cliffhanger, but I did enjoy the Scottish village in so that it would be fun to learn their perspectives of the events and aftermath.

Hot damn

I heard the author on a podcast and was intrigued by the brief mention of the book. Turns out, this is just everything I love in a story - folklore, horror, mysterious Scottish island. I couldn’t put it down.

To say that Megs is down on her luck in this genre blending cultish, cosmic horror is an understatement. I will not get into a summary because I think it is best if you go in knowing little about it. I could not put this down, I had to finish it. I had to see what happened. Crushing book hangover, in such a good way.

Let this story flow over you, and feel it’s weight. Megs has a heavy soul and seems to pull down the atmosphere around her. Gemma Amor has a way of putting you in the story, almost like you are shadowing Megan’s every move. When I read the book I could see the vast ocean, feel the breeze flow around me and tickle the hairs on the back of my neck. I could smell and taste the salt air.

This needs to be made into an illustrated special edition, however the art needs to be done in oils. There is so much depth in this novel that the art has to be thick and textured

Really loved the story and the pacing of this book, closer to a 4.5 than a 4. The only issue with it is I had trouble with the character's name of Nimrod. Not being very biblical, never knew it was a name. Rather, always thought of it as an insult to someone which I've used many times in my life. Every time I read "Nimrod," i kind of smirked.

This was the first book I've read by Gemma Amor, and it was outstanding. I wasn't sure how I felt about Megs, the main character, at first. But this is definitely a read that draws you with the initial unease and descriptions, and the resulting terror and Megs' growth is so great. I so happily recommend this book to horror readers :-)
