I really liked this book until I got around halfway and it slowly declined from there for me. I loved how fleshed out and real the characters and their backstories were. They had a good playful energy for most of the book that I liked as well.
Ryder being so steadfast for Willa was adorable. Their relationship was so strong long before they got together and I liked that a lot. But while I liked Willa and Ryder there was honestly way too much emphasis on their sexual tension for me. I understood they wanted each other and didn’t need it spelled out page after page for most of the book. Also the word “lumberjack” has never been used so many times in a book before. Most of the later half of the book felt repetitive in some ways as well. It felt way too long towards the end but it also felt like we didn’t get enough of them actually being together and not “frenemies”.

SO GOOD. This book had me laughing, crying, and squirming in my seat! I loved the banter and pranks between the characters early in the book, but then it was so nice to see how their feelings evolve over the school year.

I love love loved Ryder and Willa! Ryder is a former soccer star prospect who's career was cut short by a case of bacterial meningitis that caused him to lose his hearing. Willa is a current soccer star who's losing her mom to cancer and struggling to balance sports and school. When her and Ryder are paired up for a school project, frenemies become lovers. I adored the banter and jokes between them and this slow burn was nice and slow just like I like it!! My only issue was the communication. Not literally obviously because Ryder is deaf but emotionally. Willa and Ryder both refused to talk about anything real almost the whole book!! It was so frustrating to read and it kinda dampened the fun.

While I had a good time with this book, it was a struggle. I adored Ryder. He kept me interested. Willa fell flat and I found her to be annoying. Since I didn't like both of the main characters, the romance didn't give me everything I wanted.
