Jonathan, Maggie, & Serena are working cases that are seemingly unrelated. Stride is still having problems from his accident & isn't dealing with it well while driving a wedge between him & Serena. A kidnapped child, farmland murders, & an emotionless surgeon with a handful of mistresses. Suspects & mystery intertwine while Stride tries to decipher why women are being murdered & their bodies are missing, Serena is trying to get to the bottom of the missing child case, & Maggie is burning both ends. Surprising revelations and twists & turns had me guessing through the entire book

Brian Freeman is a fantastic suspense writer. I did not see the ending coming, and was at the edge of my seat at the end. I will definitly be looking for more of his books.

A better than average whodunit... may say more when the Internet speeds up beyond watching paint dry speed.

chilling story of how profoundly a child (or lack of) can affect a mother's psyche

There's a serial killer in the town, and his latest killing is witnessed by a cop, a cop who has plans to change her life away from police work and away from the cold of Minnesota. Meanwhile, there's an 11-month-old missing baby, chief suspect is the father, an unemotional surgeon who has never shown any real feelings for the child, and who was apparently alone with the child that night.
This is part of an ongoing series and I've only read one other in the series but a lot of the story is similar and the characters lacked depth. The story sped through and there were moments where the twists really caught me but overall it wasn't stellar
