What a wonderful read. Many sad moments, but ultimately a satisfying ending. Understand the pashto and farsi words without needing a translation is so rewarding. Definitely a compelling and fulfilling read for us brown muslims!

A touching, haunting, emotional read. Khaled Hosseini is a brilliant writer and I've learned so much about modern Afghan history from The Kite Runner and this book. Although A Thousand Splendid Suns is well-written and tells an important story, I didn't enjoy it quite as much as TKR, partly because I found the character arcs in TKR more compelling, and also because some of the descriptions of domestic violence in ATSS felt a touch gratuitous. That being said, I loved Mariam and Laila's characters and how their relationship evolved. They feel so real - my heart broke for them throughout the whole book.

osseini certainly does not disappoint, once again proving to possess a magical skill with words – he is easily on track for becoming a favourite author of mine. An emotional tale depicting the strength of womanhood and of motherhood, persevering in the face of atrocity. I recommend this for absolutely anyone and everyone – a truly spectacular read.

The last sentence of this book gave me chills. A beautiful piece of historical  fiction, I can’t recommend it enough.
